UNTHA UK trio joins Young British Metal Recyclers initiative

The future of the metal recycling industry hinges on collaboration to thrive. From large-scale enterprises to independent businesses, each operator plays a vital role in the sustainability, efficiency, and financial viability of our ecosystem. But UK-wide disparities can be a major bottleneck for progress.

Many smaller yards — especially those managed by families — feel they have no option but to navigate industry challenges independently, relying on their own experience and expertise, as well as ultra-localised connections, to operate. While this autonomy fosters a level of resilience, limited access to resources for professional development and market intelligence can also significantly stifle innovation and growth.

That’s why forces like the Young British Metal Recyclers (YBMR) initiative exist. Led by the British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA), YBMR serves as a bridge to connect like-minded professionals and foster a culture of shared learning. Recognising the importance of collective action in propelling the industry forward, we’re delighted to see a trio of UNTHA UK names further the potential of that network — Katie Mallinson, global marketing director, Lewis Horne, sales consultant, and Darren McDonnell, installation supervisor.

Through YBMR, we have the opportunity to engage with peers who, like us, are navigating the nuances of metal recycling in the UK. It’s a chance to exchange insights, explore innovative approaches, and forge meaningful connections that transcend individual business boundaries.

As members, we’re committed to leveraging this platform to contribute to the collective growth and sustainability of metal recycling, ensuring a brighter future for the industry and the communities it serves.
