Global demand for biomass pellets is expected to nearly double to 53 million tonnes by 2023, with approximately 60% of this requirement predicted to come from the EU and Asia. Wood is an important and readily available commodity that can so easily be considered a waste if not salvaged and processed for either the recycling or biomass market.
Grade C wood that is not suitable for remanufacturing or recycling into panel board (without treatment or separation systems) or animal feed, still has a role to play in the waste hierarchy via the energy recovery route. It is commonly found on construction and demolition sites, as well as in both the industrial and municipal sectors.
Biomass fuel is being readily sought by board mills and alternative fuel plants throughout the UK and overseas, meaning a revenue yield can be generated from the sale of this valuable output product.
