Two years ago, we brought you UNTHA GENIUS.

An intelligent, cloud-based condition monitoring tool – developed in our own research and development department – it uses intuitive in-built sensors to help observe, measure, and optimise the productivity of our shredders.

But as much as our products are a key driver of innovation, it’s the – often unseen – brains responsible for their creation that bring real value to the fore.

Here, we delve deeper to learn more about the man behind the tech, Robert Diosi…

Tell us about your role at UNTHA:

I’m an automation specialist and mechanical engineer, but my journey at UNTHA began four years ago at their HQ in Kuchl, Austria. Ultimately, my mission is to turn shredders into even smarter products using digitalisation.

How did UNTHA GENIUS come to fruition?

As with any tech, there’s always the risk of an unexpected downtime. And in a growing era of financial uncertainty, maximising ROI and minimising the risk of operational disruption has never been so important.

So, rather than technology running with a ‘mind of its own’, we wanted to allow our customers access to their shredders’ ‘brains’.

Summarise the solution in one sentence:

UNTHA GENIUS provides a complete overview of your fleet, processes all your data in real-time, alerts you of any operational errors, and sends notifications directly to your chosen device, to help streamline productivity.

And how does it work?

UNTHA GENIUS sends a multitude of measurement values and data to the Cloud, where they are securely stored – making it possible to define optimisation trends and prevent machine issues before they happen. Part orders can also be made and schedules tweaked accordingly.

Whether you’re a managing director, machine operator, or head of operations, UNTHA GENIUS offers enhancements on many levels – from reduced costs and planning of maintenance activities, to rapid troubleshooting and data overviews that improve machine performance.

What’s your favourite feature or benefit?

I’m biased, so I think the tool is great in its entirety, but I love the security element. Data is supplied to the solution from an UNTHA Edge device affixed to the shredder, which transfers machine metrics via multiple integrated firewalls and a secure ISO27001 certified end-to-end connection.

And, operators can only retrieve data via an encrypted, password-protected ‘My UNTHA’ portal. If required, user authorisation levels are also configurable to restrict visibility.

Tell us something we might not know about UNTHA GENIUS:

It can analyse up 100 process values – including speed and torque, cooling water temperate, and conveyer power (apparent and real). That’s a lot of data!

And what’s next on the agenda?

Innovation never stands still – and there’s plenty more on the horizon for UNTHA GENIUS.

As our research and development team continues to expand, the focus to improve efficiency and quality will remain constant, but predictive maintenance and artificial intelligence will play a key role in driving future enhancements and making the solution more economical too.
