Inside a solar-powered waste-to-energy shredding operation

PSH

The wheels of PSH Environmental operations were first set in motion in 1995. And since then, the family business has made significant strides to improve the way the UK handles its waste. With the integration of a solar-powered shredder at its Norwich-headquartered site, the facility is now breaking ground with pioneering waste processing initiatives.

In an expertly curated reel by our partners at Manto, viewers are granted a firsthand look into the facility’s inner workings. The roof, adorned with 798 solar panels, is capable of generating up to 400kW of energy, says director Martyn Parker. This volume not only enables PSH Environmental’s self-sufficiency on-site — powering a 38-tonne UNTHA XR3000C mobil-e that transforms waste into a renewable energy source — but also contributes power back to the grid.

In partnership with Norfolk County Council, 60,000 tonnes of municipal and street-sweeping waste grace the facility each year. But that’s not all. Skip, mixed construction, demolition and third-party commercial waste also contribute to the site’s diverse waste streams. Emphasising UNTHA’s commitment to engineering a sustainable future, sales director Gary Moore also shares how the annual 80,000-tonne throughput is fuelling our circular economy.
