So, each month we quiz a different colleague on 10 quickfire questions that offer a little more insight into why they play such an important and valued part of our growing team.  

Next up, it’s Darren McDonnell, installation supervisor, over to you!  

How did you first get into the world of shredding? 

I began my journey as an installations engineer after hearing about UNTHA’s reputation from a current employee. When the opportunity arose to progress to installations supervisor, I jumped at it – I’ve been in this role for one year now.  

 

What’s the one skill or quality that helps you succeed in the UNTHA environment?   

Being a people-person. Building strong relationships with colleagues and customers is essential – it allows us to deliver a great service and grow as a company.  

 

Name one highlight from your UNTHA tenure so far.  

Completing the installation at the Royal Mint. It was a good experience to contribute to a facility that holds such historical and national importance.  

 

How do you unwind at the end of a busy day at work? 

Spending quality time with my three kids.  

 

What’s the best piece of work-related advice you’ve ever received?  

Always be honest.  

 

Which machine is your favourite from the UNTHA shredder range, and why?  

The LRK1400. It can shred a wide variety of materials and is user-friendly for our customers.  

 

UNTHA has a number of divisions scattered all over the globe — Austria, Poland, Iberica, and Türkiye, to name a few. If you weren’t a trusty fixture at the UK branch, which business would be next on your work hit list?  

UNTHA Türkiye. It’s a smaller outfit with a lot of potential for growth, and I think I could really make an impact there. Despite its size, the company already has a great reputation, which makes it even more exciting. 

 

What do you think makes UNTHA’s service such a hit with our customers? 

The customer journey. We’re honest, trustworthy, and always have the customer’s interest at heart.  

 

What’s your main hope for UNTHA UK over the next year or so? 

That we further develop a culture where every colleague is given the opportunity to grow in their role.  

 

And finally, what’s your main environmental hope for the UK as a whole?  

That more companies begin to explore alternative fuels and adopt energy-efficient practices, with the support of UNTHA UK.
