UNTHA UK is like no other provider of waste shredders. Each employee has been handpicked on the basis that they can add real value not just to our own organisation, but to clients’ businesses too.
UNTHA UK employs a team of waste shredding consultants, each with their own engineering and application experience. The knowledge they have gained from being out in the field themselves means UNTHA UK’s understanding of client waste management scenarios is second-to-none.
UNTHA UK’s key waste shredding experts
With a 25 year career working with technically complex capital equipment, Marcus has been involved in multi-million pound blue-chip engineering projects around the world. As a result his in-depth knowledge of the production environment spans everything from waste management to the automotive industry and the fascinating world of aerospace.
Now a recognised expert in shredding technologies for the alternative fuel production industry, Marcus has played an active role in some of the country’s most exciting waste to energy and biomass projects. His contacts and knowledge of the wider supply chain mean he is ideally placed to not just advise on the shredding machinery itself, but also the financing, design and cost reductions of the complete waste to energy solution.
His commitment to delivering high quality projects that achieve maximum profitability for clients now cascade’s throughout the entire UNTHA UK team, in Marcus’ role as managing director. With a strong sales focus, he is also responsible for the day-to-day running of the company, the implementation of ever-more efficient processes and procedures, and the ongoing development of this incredibly talented team.
CEO of UNTHA Shredding Technology
A renowned name in the global waste and recycling marketplace, Alois is Chief Executive Officer of UNTHA UK’s Austrian-based parent company, UNTHA shredding technology. He is also a valued director and board member of UNTHA UK.
Recognising the strength and success of the UK market, he visits our North Yorkshire headquarters at least once a quarter, whilst maintaining weekly dialogue with the hard working UK team. This ensures a close-working interface between the two operations, and ongoing knowledge transfer. This seamless communication and direct link to Salzburg also helps steer best-practice innovation and the continued evolution of this industry-business, on an international level.
A self-motivated sales manager, with an abundance of enthusiasm and good humour, not to mention over 25 years’ experience, Gary is a knowledgeable shredding specialist. His expertise spans the design, sales and supply of turnkey recycling and waste management solutions for the RDF/SRF, WEEE and scrap metals industries, to name just a few.
Having worked in various engineering, project management, servicing and sales roles, in the UK and overseas, Gary has an impressive CV. The specialist shredding insight he has harnessed along the way, translates into an unrivalled ability to provide value-adding advice for UNTHA UK’s clients. He has supported customers in the development of existing and emerging market opportunities, whilst ensuring the roll out of sustainable business and marketing plans, continued growth and profitability.
A familiar face within the UNTHA UK team, Chris has been involved in the company’s journey since the beginning. In 2017, he retired from his role as chairman, following almost 50 years working in industry. However, we welcomed him back as a sales consultant in November 2018, to support UNTHA with the latest phenomenal phase of growth.
He will be responsible for working with prospective customers throughout the country, as they explore ways to boost their resource agendas – and their bottom lines – with the use of high performance shredding solutions.
Area Sales Manager
With more than 8 years’ industry experience, Gemma has worked the length and breadth of the waste and recycling landscape. She spent the earlier parts of her career in glass recycling, before broadening her waste horizons and moving on to a sales role at Biffa. Most recently employed by Veolia, prior to joining UNTHA UK, she therefore has a strong grasp of the environmental challenges – and opportunities – facing customers throughout the country.
Keen to pursue a more technical sales role, Gemma was the perfect addition to the team at the start of 2019. She is working with existing and prospective clients throughout the North of England, Scotland and Wales, and is the ‘go to’ contact for all things ‘four shaft’.

Such varied knowledge means very little fazes him, when delivering shredder projects large and small. Whether he’s supporting a client with the commissioning of a new machine install or the rebuild of an existing asset, he’s Mr Technical and Mr Organised!
Senior Service Engineer
There really is no challenge too large or small for this popular member of the UNTHA UK team. Ben’s ‘can do’ attitude and multi-skilled engineering experience means he is UNTHA UK’s lead point of contact for both mechanical and electrical enquiries.
With over 16 years’ experience, Ben can support clients in varied waste and recycling environments. He plays a pivotal role in the shredder commissioning stage, and remains a familiar face when assisting clients with the ongoing servicing and maintenance of their machinery. Ben quickly becomes a trusted member of the team who customers can rely on to ensure the greatest possible return on investment from their shredders. They are continually impressed with his level of knowledge and assistance, and the rapport he therefore has with these clients is second-to-none.
Andy has a varied role at UNTHA UK , given the assorted nature of existing client applications and the number of diverse new enquiries that the team is currently working on.
An integral member of the team, Andy is responsible for spare parts sales, enquiries and bookings for the exciting new test centre, waste shredder demonstrations, machinery servicing and the overall maintenance of UNTHA UK’s North Yorkshire engineering hub.
As a highly-qualified mechanical and electrical engineer, little fazes Rob on an installation, service or maintenance job. His CV has seen him work for the Ministry of Defence, help run Pedigree Masterfoods’ factory and build sports cars – and these are just some of the highlights! He is therefore well versed in tackling technical scenarios in a variety of sectors, which means he is an asset to have working on clients’ varied shredder projects.
The last eight years of his career have been spent in the waste and recycling sector, so he has some great knowledge to tap into – not to mention a good humoured approach to working with customers and colleagues alike!
Following 18 years’ working in the food industry, Alan fancied a new challenge at the same time that our warehouse team continued to expand! He is therefore a welcome addition to this part of our aftersales function.
As a crucial support to UNTHA UK’s service manager Andy, Alan assists with spare and wear parts enquiries, deliveries and stock-taking; helps customer undertake trials at our shredder test centre; and provides general support for our team of nationwide engineers. This is the first time he’s worked in the world of waste and recycling, but he has quickly become a much-needed member of the team!
With more than 15 years’ experience in a variety of administration roles, Liana brings a wealth of organisational, process and communication skills to her position at UNTHA UK. She is often one of the first points of contact for new customers enquiring about our products and services, and she therefore provides a crucial interface between these businesses and our shredding experts.
She is fast becoming one of our core ‘behind the scenes’ colleagues who keeps UNTHA running efficiently, effectively, and to the highest standards. However, her personable nature means she will become more and more client-facing as time passes.
An experienced chartered accountant with years of technical industry knowledge, Liz is responsible for every element of UNTHA UK’s finance function. She ensures the commercial robustness of the business as it continues to grow, taking care of everything from the company’s management accounts, through to payroll, invoicing, auditing, VAT and cash flow.
With a fresh, open and proactive approach to accounting, Liz has proven a hit between clients and suppliers alike. She is a helpful point of contact for all finance-related queries, and works hard to streamline every single transaction that UNTHA UK makes. The result is a more structured, robust and profitable waste shredding organisation that guarantees the highest level of customer service and, ultimately, is built to last.
PR and Marketing Manager
A highly experienced marketing professional, having worked for technical industries throughout the UK and internationally,
Katie is responsible for coordinating every element of UNTHA UK’s communications strategy. She liaises with customers to develop case studies and videos, maximises our presence at trade shows and exhibitions, works with the team to prepare authoritative comments for trade journals, maintains our website content and keeps everyone updated as to what goes on at our Boroughbridge headquarters.
Some clients know exactly what machine they need to satisfy their waste shredding requirements, whereas other companies seek the insight of engineering, recycling and alternative fuel production experts. UNTHA UK therefore offers a comprehensive consultancy service to enable clients to build the best-practice and best-fit waste processing system for their needs.
Regardless of the customer’s application or sector, the UNTHA UK team will share decades of waste management experience to develop solutions that can increase clients’ profitability through engineering excellence, efficiency and reliability.
Our consultants and engineers who work out in the field with clients, liaise closely with UNTHA’s manufacturing headquarters in Austria, to ensure the continual development of waste shredding solutions that address ever-changing UK marketplace needs. Regular secondments between the UK and Austria encourage additional knowledge transfer, and sometimes clients are even invited along to provide their own design input. No other waste shredding provider can proclaim such a client-focused approach to machinery design.
