Paul Collins interviewed by waste and recycling magazine MRW
UNTHA UK’s projects and services manager Paul Collins was interviewed by waste and recycling magazine MRW this month, for the popular Little Interview feature. His Q&A appears in the current issue of MRW, but if you haven’t yet seen a copy, you can read his responses here, in full.
What was your first job? I was a silver service waiter at a local hotel – quite different to what I do now.
What are the best and worst moments of your career so far? The best by far was successfully installing and commissioning Waste to Energy shredding technology at Sita’s renowned SRF facility in Birmingham. The worst moment – getting sacked from the hotel for dropping too many roasted potatoes onto customers’ laps!
What is your toughest challenge? Supporting and building a successful engineering department in an ever-growing company. It has been difficult but incredibly rewarding.
What is your favourite food? I can even describe my favourite dish – Mozzarella & Pesto Stuffed Chicken, wrapped in Parma Ham with dauphinoise potatoes.
How do you relax? Spending time with my Fiancée and Bailey, our baby boy. I also play guitar and drums, and enjoy a large glass of wine.
Book or e-reader? E-reader – I’m a big fan of the iPad.
What one thing would you change about the waste/recycling industry? I’d like better public education about the importance of recycling, focusing on the younger generation.
If you weren’t in waste what would you want to be? I’d like to own a bar in Spain.
Where is your favourite place, apart from home? Santuario Virgin de la Esperanza, Calasparra – the most peaceful place I have ever visited.
What is your favourite song? Everlong, by the Foo Fighters.
If you could have a drink with one famous person, who would it be? Dave Grohl.
