How to shred C&I waste for SRF

With interest in alternative fuel production increasingly gathering pace in the UK, a growing number of people actually know how to shred commercial and industrial waste (C&I waste) to produce Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF).

It requires a considered approach of course, to ensure true commitment to the waste hierarchy. Materials should be pre-sorted, before being shredded to further liberate all the components of the waste. Shredder screens can be utilised to guarantee a high quality, homogenous fraction, which fulfils the end user’s specification entirely. And other separation equipment such as wind shifters and over band magnets can be integrated into the system to achieve the highest possible recycling rates, and thus revenue streams.

But it’s not enough to simply understand how the methodology should work. In today’s modern business climate, waste to energy operators should be looking for a ‘best in class’ solution to produce RDF and SRF. We have world leading technology here in the UK, so there’s no reason why alternative fuel producers should settle for anything less.

Due to pioneering research, development and engineering, it’s possible to produce SRF using one shredder, instead of two. Straight away, you could halve your capital investment.

Efficient single-step SRF production reaps significant energy savings which means less impact on the environment – a driving force behind producing this renewable fuel in the first place.

Reduced power consumption also equates to significant financial benefits. And striving to become a more profitable organisation is something nobody should be embarrassed of.

There are noise levels to consider as well. Keeping noise emissions to a minimum protects the wellbeing of your operatives, and may almost avoid the need to invest in hearing protection, which reaps further cost savings! It can also prove crucial to planning consent being granted for new plants, which is something many people don’t yet realise.

All of these benefits without compromising the throughputs you’re able to achieve!

UNTHA UK will be delving into this subject matter in a lot more detail at RWM. But if you’d like to start a conversation now, why not contact us to learn how you can benefit from our single-step SRF shredder. Or, sit back and watch this teaser video from a UK plant…
